Hello all. I'm new to the forum and I'll soon get over to the introductions section, but I have a more pressing matter at hand. I just finished my bike yesterday and I took it out for it's second ride today. It seems to run fine, start reliably and has plenty of power. I had been having an issue with the spark plug cable coming off. It almost seems like the cap isn't meant to fit the spark plug that came with my motor. On my ride today, I was heading back home after the spark plug cable fell off when it fell off a second time. I reached down to replace it and saw that my carburetor was on fire! I shut off the fuel valve and extinguished it (with my favorite Metallica shirt), but it took a couple of minutes and was definitely kinda scary. Now I have to order a new CDI box, make a new throttle cable (it was a custom length), replace the old style kill switch that was mounted near the carb, and somehow remove the melted air cleaner cover from the carb. Obviously there was fuel leaking out of the carb, but how it managed to ignite, I have no idea. Possibly, when the spark plug cable came loose, it sparked and ignited the fumes from the excess fuel. Anyway, I could really use some help figuring out what's causing fuel to spill out of the carb. The gas line is tight so it's not leaking directly from the line. Shortly before the fire, I had given a couple of turns to the idle adjustment screw on the side of the carb. Is it possible I turned it too far, causing too much fuel to spill into the carb? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ive noticed sometimes the carbs just do that when they are new, it is a cheap carb not a very good needle and float. mine have just stopped after 3 or 4 tanks. as for the spark plug you have to unscrew the little cap on the top, or buy a new spark plug wire boot.
